Your older siblings might have come to this converted cathedral way back in
the nineties when it was called Limelight. This club received a mega makeover, complete with
neon lights, a booming sound system, backlit bars, and plenty of VIP rooms. Avalon attracts an outer-borough
crowd that dances to house and trance music pumping through the dance
floor and side lounge, a.k.a. "The Chapel."

According to the A-Group at Horace Mann, Marymount, and Dalton, this former
nightspot-turned-private club on the Upper West Side is the place to
hold your afterprom. Crane comes with a huge dance floor and bar in the back and a more intimate side
lounge with tables and banquettes for those seniors who haven't quite
perfected their dance moves.
• 408 Amsterdam Ave., between 79th and 80th Sts., 212-877-3097
Switch partners at this young gay haven. Three floors (named heaven, hell, and
purgatory) mean three chances to see young, fit, and shirtless boys and
sometimes even girls dancing to bubblegum pop and retro dance hits. There's a
different theme every night (Latin Wednesdays, Lesbian Fridays), but Heaven's
most fabulous fete is its Saturday night, 18-and-up "Gay College
Party" that could easily double as a listening session for every Britney
Spears CD made.

Sharing laughs can be just as intimate as sharing a slow dance—and your
palms won't end up as sweaty, either. Credited as the birth place of such
famous comedians as Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Dave Attell, and Eddie Murphy,
these days you're more likely to catch an up-and-comer at Comic Strip Live who
provides witty one-liners on a VH1 special. The Strip's "Limo to
Laughter" prom package includes a commemorative Playbill, free food, and
unlimited soda and juice. And if you think you've got the chops to entertain,
you can enter the "Funniest Grad" contest for more freebies and a
video tape of your performance.
• 1568 Second Ave., between 81st and 82nd Sts., 212-861-9386
At the Copacabana you can expect to hear a sexy mix of
world wide Latino music featuring Reggeaton, Bachata, Meringue, salsa and
Hip Hop all playing across its floors simultaneously. We know you
won't hear the same mix play on the same two floors. When you're finally ready to kick off your dancing shoes, board the
complimentary cruise ship that sails around the New York City harbor during
sun rise while you refuel and recap over a full continental breakfast.

If you are going to organize your own alcohol- and drug-free after prom party, here some important tips on planning it.
It is supposed to be one of the happiest days of a kid's life, but for too many it turns into a horrible tragedy. Prom night is often regarded as a "right of passage" and too many kids use it as an excuse to abandon core values, and common sense - and go wild. As parents and caregivers, it is sometimes necessary to protect the children from themselves. Prom night is one of the last opportunities to do this. The after prom party has taken a twist in recent years as parents have teamed up to sponsor alcohol-and drug-free celebrations. The challenge is to make the party so entertaining that teens will want to attend.
A lot parents began organizing all night after prom parties at their kid's high school after close friends' kids have been killed while driving drunk. Now days a lot of high schools cooperate to share ideas, themes, decorations, and fundraising for after prom events. While the after prom parties usually require months of planning and fundraising, It's not too late for this year. People have pulled together a reasonably successful after prom party in 2 weeks for $1,500.
Promise the kids a compelling, fun-filled and entertaining PARTY as an alternative to "other" activities. Make your event more appealing to the teens - than engaging in dangerous activities such as drinking and drugs. You can be the one to make their prom a night to remember - not a tragic night they'll want to forget! Don't let your teenager become a statistic on prom night.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, on a typical prom weekend:
If there's no school-wide event, you might consider hosting your child's friends at your house. Together you can decide the party's start and end times, how many guests you can handle, and who will be invited. But here are some planning basics that you must tackle early on.
Make it clear that you won't allow gate-crashers. Otherwise, the party could grow out of control. If an invited guest has been drinking when he arrives at the party, call his parents to come pick him up.
Get advance agreement with your teen on the party rules, such as no drinking or drugs; no smoking; no leaving the party and then returning; and no turning off the lights or using rooms that you've declared off-limits.
Greet guests at the door. Your teen will want you to keep a low profile, but you need to circulate. Watch for large bags in which kids might smuggle alcohol. Serve food in small quantities so you can use the excuse of replenishing supplies to keep an eye on the festivities.
Check your yard periodically. If you have a large number of guests, invite a few other parents, both to keep you company (and awake all night!) and to help keep order. It's also smart to alert your neighbors.
Do not serve alcohol. This should go without saying, but some parents assume that high-school seniors will inevitably drink on prom night and feel it's better for them to do it under parental supervision. This overlooks the fact that serving alcohol to minors is illegal and that you can be found criminally or civilly liable if anyone at the party, including the intoxicated teen, gets hurt.
If the Party Is at Someone Else's House call the host parent in advance to find out the ground rules.
Find out when the party will end and who will be chaperoning. If your
child has more than one party invitation on prom night, it's safest to
have her pick one for the evening and not party-hop.
GET YOUR A NIGHT SLEEP:
Make sure you get enough sleep the night before Prom—you'll need all your energy to dance the night away.
EAT RIGHT!:
It's tempting to try and skip meals to lose weight before the Prom. Don't do it! You'll feel much better (and be in a better mood!) if you eat three healthy meals a day.
TAKE YOUR SHOES FOR A TEST DRIVE:
Make sure your shoes are comfortable and that the heels aren't too high. A twisted or sprained ankle is the last thing you want to deal with on the big night!
KEEP IT LOCAL:
Many schools offer post-Promparties to keep high school students safe in a drug- and alcohol-free environment. Some schools’ after Prom events feature obstacle courses, roulette tables, rock-climbing, and a moon bounce!
GRAB SOME GRUB:
Do you know of a coffeehouse or fun restaurant where you could go for dessert, tea or coffee? If it's a place you've never been before, check out the hours and the prices beforehand. Casual spots like Denny’s or IHOP can be especially fun when you’re still all dressed up, and they tend to stay open late or all night. You can even visit a fancy hotel and have a non-alcoholic drink in the lobby!
BRING THE PARTY HOME:
Plan an after party at someone's house. Arrange beforehand for plenty of snacks and sodas, or plan to order pizza. Bring videos, CDs, and games. Some people who live in cold climates even rent ski lodges for their after parties.
BE UNCONVENTIONAL:
Go bowling! Or ice skating! Play laser tag, take in a late-night movie, visit a miniature golf course or just go somewhere completely unexpected like a go-kart track or a pool hall. Sure, you might get a few stares, but who cares! This is your night. Live it up!
LAUGH THE NIGHT AWAY:
Another popular option is going to a comedy club after prom. You can sometimes get a group rate, which may include unlimited soft drinks.
THE PARTY DOESN'T HAVE TO STOP:
The Prom is a big, exciting event. Pre-planning can make your whole experience even better!
So you actually got permission to stay out late on Prom night...maybe even all night! But where do you go now? What is there to do? Everyone parties in their own way once the dance is over. Some go for the whole night. Some for the whole weekend. And a few go home. Check out here what people are doing after prom. It is up to you to decide what you want to do.
